Let's Put it in Perspective By Theresa Jenkins When you look at my house the first thing you will see is the weeds. Holy smokes they are everywhere! You can barely see the flowers, the ornamental grasses and bushes that once showcased the home we love so much.
Our next door neighbor Rick, loves his yard. Spends hours each week mowing the grass, edging, weeding. It really is quite pretty, all the work he does. When he looks at my yard, as I sometimes catch him doing; I know he is frustrated. He thinks we don't care how our home looks. To him we are just too lazy/too busy to take care of it. We recently hired someone to help with the yard because we just cant get to it. I know Rick appreciates that since he thanked John four times for doing the work.
It makes me wonder. When you look at a house thats falling part outside, what do you see? Do you see the neglected shutters needing paint, the cracked sidewalk, the weeds taller than the windows.
What do you see?
Do you see a lazy person? A person who doesn't care about their home or how the neighbors might feel? Or do you see a family with four kids they love more than anything. Do you see the family who wants to spend time with their kids and enjoy the little bit of normalcy they have before their child starts chemo?
It's funny what perspective gives you. I think back to last summer when I went for walks around my neighborhood. How quickly I could judge "THAT" house that was falling apart. But what I didn't know then that i know now; is that there's a reason it looks that way. Maybe the family can't afford to fix it up, maybe they don't have time because they have to work hard so they don't lose their job, or maybe like us they have a child who is sick and that child needs their attention more than the lawn does.
So what do you see? Will you look past the peeling paint and see the world in a new perspective?

Thank you! TMN and Chesapeake Mommies would like to thank everyone who voted for us in the Chase Community Giving contest on Facebook.
The Executive Board and all the Directors at The Mommies Network were so excited and thankful to receive the news that we were one of the charities being awarded $20,000 from the Chase Community Giving Champaign! It's been our hope to take TMN to the next level of being a charitable organization and this award will enable us to do that!
Our plan is to:
? Establish a TMN Matching Funds Program where TMN will be able to match select charitable donations.
? Repay the sites who recently loaned us money to purchase a new server;
? Create an emergency fund to pay the basics of running the Network for one year;
? Have our websites updated to attract larger sponsors.
We want to thank everyone who voted, who begged their friends to vote, to help TMN achieve their goal. Please take the time to visit your site's TMN Central forum to learn more about TMN. If you are interested in volunteering to help at our national level please check your Help Wanted forum as we have many open positions.

It only takes a minute of your time and your vote DOES make a difference! This money would make a huge impact for our organization and all of our communities - so please spread the word and ask your friends and family to vote as well.
Chase is giving $250k to first place and $100k to 2-5 places in the voting. We would LOVE TMN to be first - with over 25k members, there is no reason we can't achieve this!
We are currently in the Top 10 and if everyone votes and spreads the word TMN will have this substantial award to thrive and grow!
It costs about $6.50/member/year to keep TMN and our communities up and running right now.
Cancer knows no boundaries, our children are our future...
The Mommies Network & ChesapeakeMommies.com wants to support pediatric cancer research and "be a good cookie." Help us let the letter "C" stand for "Cookies" and not "Cancer".
On June 26th members of ChesapeakeMommies.com and the Aberdeen Moose Lodge have teamed up to host a community Yard Sale that will benefit Cookies for Kids Cancer. Spaces are $10 ea & all money raised from spot fees will go to Cookies for Kids Cancer. The Aberdeen Moose is located on S. Rogers Street in Aberdeen. The event will be held from 8am ? 1pm with food and beverages provided by the Moose.
History
Cookies for Kids' Cancer? was founded by a mom inspired by her son's fight against cancer.
Together we can raise the funds and awareness necessary to change the face of pediatric cancer research and to provide more families and children with the hope they deserve.
Cookies for Kids? Cancer?s focus is raising funds to support research for new and improved therapies for pediatric cancer. Through the concept of local bake sales, Cookies for Kids? Cancer provides the inspiration and support for individuals, communities and businesses to help fight pediatric cancer. Cancer claims the lives of more children annually than any other disease ? more than asthma, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis and AIDS combined. While survival rates have improved over time, more than 25% of kids diagnosed with a pediatric cancer will not survive, lagging behind most adult cancers. Some cancers like Leukemia have reached survival rates of almost 90% while others like Neuroblastoma, the most common malignant tumor in children, have lagged behind and today nearly 40% of children diagnosed with this form of cancer will not survive. For the children who survive, most suffer serious long-term health issues from the treatments intended to save them.
Pediatric cancer is dramatically underfunded both by the Federal Government and
pharmaceutical companies. In the past 20 years, there has not been a new drug developed specifically for pediatric cancer.
How you can help
During the month of June The Mommies Network will hold bake sales and
online "no bake" sales to help raise money for "Cookies for Kids' Cancer"
Every dollar counts and every dollar makes a difference. Research funding has made a direct and measurable impact on the survival rates of pediatric cancer. If children are our most precious resource, why wouldn?t we do everything in our power to keep them safe? It?s our responsibility and obligation to protect them and our future.
Thank you in advance for your donation. As the mother whose idea it was to create Cookies for Kids? Cancer says, ?If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes the world to fight pediatric cancer.? We?re in this fight because every child battling cancer deserves a fighting chance. I hope you too will join our efforts and be a good cookie.
